Privacy Highlights for Teens

For users aged 13 to 17, and the adults who look after them: how SkillKnex looks after your information, in plain terms. The full Privacy Policy applies too - this page highlights what matters most for younger users.

The short version

  • You must be 13 or older to use SkillKnex.
  • We collect only what we need to run your account and your learning.
  • We do not include under-18s in brand reports. Brands do not get your data.
  • We do not sell your personal data. Ever.
  • You control what is public and what is private.
  • You can download your data or delete your account any time.
  • A parent or guardian can contact us on your behalf at privacy@skillknex.com.

1. How we know you're a teen

When you sign up, we ask for your date of birth. We use this to apply the right protections for your age group.

You must be 13 or older to create an account. Our sign-up screen blocks registrations from anyone under 13.

If we learn (for example through a report) that an account belongs to someone under 13, we close the account and delete their data. If you believe this applies to an account, tell us at privacy@skillknex.com and we will act on it.

We do not ask you to upload an ID document to sign up.

We do not collect your precise location, scan your contacts, or track you across other apps or websites.

3. Your default settings

Because you're under 18, some things are set to protect you by default:

  • Action Proofs are private by default unless you choose to share them publicly. (A required 1v1 challenge proof is the one exception: it is submitted for review and only becomes public if approved.)
  • Optional product analytics is off until you turn it on.
  • Push notifications only work if you switch them on in your device settings.

Think carefully before making content public, especially Action Proofs that include images of yourself or others.

4. What we will never do with your data

  • Your content belongs to you. SkillKnex does not take ownership of it.
  • We will never sell your personal data to anyone.
  • We will never include you in brand reports or advertising profiles. This is reserved for adult users only, and even then it is aggregated, meaning brands see group trends, never your individual data.
  • We will never use your data for targeted advertising.
  • We will never share your content (your videos, photos, comments, or prompts) with brands.
  • We will never ask you for identity documents to create or use your account.

5. Brand reports: you are not included

SkillKnex generates its income partly by selling aggregated reports to brands, for example "how many adults in the UK completed a lesson in the fitness category this month."

If we know you are under 18, you are not included in these reports. Period.

Brands receive group statistics. They do not receive names, usernames, email addresses, profiles, videos, photos, or any information that identifies you.

6. Who can see your information

We do not give brands, advertisers, or other companies access to your personal profile or content.

7. Your choices and rights

You, or a parent or guardian acting for you, can:

  • See your data: go to Settings / Privacy / Download My Data.
  • Correct your data: go to Settings / Edit Profile.
  • Delete your account: go to Settings / Account / Delete Account (there is a 30-day period to change your mind).
  • Turn off analytics: go to Settings / Privacy.
  • Turn off notifications: go to Settings / Notifications or your device settings.
  • Object to processing: email privacy@skillknex.com.
  • Report a problem: use the in-app report button or email abuse@skillknex.com.

Exercising your rights is always free.

8. How we protect your information

  • Your password is encrypted and stored securely. We never see it in plain text.
  • All data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
  • Access to your data is limited to the people and systems that need it.
  • We carry out regular security reviews.

9. How long we keep your data

We keep your data while you have an account. When you delete your account:

  • We start removing your data after a 30-day grace period.
  • Public content you posted is unpublished.
  • Some technical safety records are kept in anonymised form (meaning they cannot be linked back to you) for fraud prevention and legal compliance.

10. Information for parents and guardians

If your child is using SkillKnex, here is what you should know:

  • SkillKnex is for users aged 13 and over.
  • If your child is under 13 and has created an account, please email privacy@skillknex.com and we will delete their account and data.
  • You can contact us on behalf of your child to exercise their data rights: email privacy@skillknex.com.
  • We design SkillKnex with the ICO’s Age Appropriate Design Code (Children’s Code) in mind.
  • We encourage teenagers to use SkillKnex with a parent or guardian involved, especially younger teens.

11. Questions and complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
